There are a lot of places to shop in the metro but if you truly want to maximize your money’s worth, check out these shopping destinations perfect for frugal buyers.
When it comes to low prices, Divisoria is the destination. This favorite shopping district located in the heart of Manila is famous for its cheap finds. Shop through hundreds of stalls scattered in a cluster of malls.
Shopping secret: You can get better deals outside the malls. Scour the stalls just outside the major Divisoria malls. If you do manage to find a place that sells nice goods, take note of the stall number and the mall. You might have a hard time finding it again.
Marikina Public Market
Located at Barangay Sta. Elena in Marikina City, this public market is said to be the cleanest wet market in the metro. Aside from the fresh produce for your handaans, it also carries dry goods such as clothes, toys, shoes, summer essentials…basically, anything you can think of.
Shopping secret: If you are planning to buy both food items and dry goods, bring two huge bags to separate the two. It’ll also be a good idea to bring a trolley if you are buying a lot.
This garment heaven is located alongside the New Taytay Public Market. People who have visited claim that products here are even priced lower than those in Divisoria. A lot of online shops also get their supplies here. So if you want unique finds, visit this shoppers’ haven.
Shopping secret: Unlike the malls or departments stores, it’ll be harder to return items here. So check what you’re buying and make sure they fit you and have no damage before you leave the stall.
This is another classic and favorite shopping destination in Metro Manila. Known for its imported finds and tech market, you can find a lot of export overruns and second hand gadgets here.
Shopping secret: When you have found your go-to stall, get the seller’s number. Stalls in Greenhills rotate. Next year, you might never find the stall in the area.
Unlike in the US, outlet stores here are scattered all over the Metro. Penshoppe has one in Farmer’s Plaza while Guess has in Ali Mall, which are both in Cubao. Tomato’s is in Makati while SM Department Store has a huge one in Quiapo. There are also a couple of high-end brands that have outlets in Paseo de Sta. Rosa in Laguna.
Shopping secret: Because items are branded, they are pricier compared to what you will buy from the markets. The prices are, however, discounted by 70 percent to sometimes even 80 percent.
