TV actress and Set for Health product ambassador Denise Laurel got her start in theater at the age of six, and she’s been in the entertainment industry since then. That’s 22 years to be exact. She’s used to hectic schedules, all-day shoots, and long nights. As an actress, she’s used to juggling work, sometimes filming two or more shows, at the same time.
So when she started feeling fatigued, stressed, and overly emotional while filming a drama series and a reality singing competition, she knew right away that something was wrong. “I was always so sickly and weak. I would get dizzy spells. I felt like fainting. I would just function because I had to work. The show must go on, that’s how I was built to be,” she says.
As it turned out, she had multiple lumps in her breast, lymph nodes, and ovaries. They were benign but that didn’t stop her from preparing for her future. She, in fact, considers the cancer scare as a blessing in disguise. It was a wakeup call to prepare for her son’s future now because she might not be there for him all the time. “If I do have cancer, at least I’m prepared. If I don’t then I still have to prepare,” says. “What I learned from this health scare is you can go at any moment. If you’re not prepared, it may be too late.”
