Maximize Your Facebook Experience With These Hacks

Facebook is more than just an online photo album. We now get our news, do our buy and sell transactions, and accomplish a lot more on this social media platform. But did you know that you can do more on Facebook than just post selfies and stalk your crushes? We compiled some not-so-known cool features from our favorite social media network.

Watch Live Videos from Around the Globe

You can now watch live videos streamed by users from different parts of the world. There are lots of live news coverage and sporting events. You can sometimes even watch free concerts legally. Downside to this is that there are also lots of teens streaming themselves talking about mundane things. Still, some of the videos can be amusing. To access this feature, just go to www.facebook.com/livemap. Right now, this feature is exclusive to desktop browsers.

Download a Copy of Your Facebook Data

Remember when Multiply was about to close down? We had to download all the images and posts we had in our pages before it was sent to some offline archive that we did not have access to. Well, Facebook isn’t closing anytime soon but there’s a discreet feature where you can download all the images, posts, videos, and chat conversations you have in your account. To download your data, just go to Settings > General and click "Download a copy of your Facebook data" at the bottom. Follow the directions on the pop-up screen.

Assign a Moderator After You Die

u may want to assign a friend or a family member to become a moderator after you pass away. This is called the legacy contact. After Facebook has deemed your account as a “memorial” account, that assigned contact will be able to access your account to create pinned posts or add new friend requests. They can even access your chat conversations in case there’s a need to access those information. To assign a legacy contact, go to Settings > General > Manage Account > Legacy Contact tab. Choose one of your Facebook contacts to become the legacy moderator. You also have the option to have your account deleted.

Personalize Your News Feed

Tired of the serial rant posts of your high school friend but don’t have the heart to unfriend them? Do you want to see more videos of puppies from your neighbourhood pet shop? You can prioritize what you want to see on your news feed by clicking the three dots after the News Feed icon. Choose “Edit Preference” to customize your news feed.

Send Files Over Chat

Sometimes, you need to send more than a selfie to a friend but you don’t know their email address. You can use the paperclip icon in the chat box to send all types of files. Alternatively, you can drag and drop that file to the chat box if you’re accessing Facebook on a desktop.
