5 Things That Turn Working Millennials into Scrooges This Season

Still have to work this holiday season? You’re not alone. Here are some of the other things that turn working millennials into scrooges this Christmas and New Year.

It’s Christmas and while everyone is celebrating, you are stuck in your office chair and meeting targets. As sad as the picture is, this is not an unusual occurrence. Many working millennials will be at their office typing away while the rest of the world is on vacay. And they call millennials, lazy and entitled!!
Which of these five reasons has you languishing in holiday blues?

1. Working on a holiday
What holiday? Some companies, especially call centers, will still have work even during holidays. December, too, is when departments work on their end-of-year targets. That means overtime and no vacation.
How to deal: Try to have fun in between work by going out for lunch with your officemates or keeping your office desk festive through Christmas decorations.

2. Nothing to wear to Christmas parties
It sounds so simple but no one wants to show up in a shirt when everyone else is dressed in flapper dresses. But, at the same time, you don’t want to buy something you’d only wear once in your lifetime.
How to deal: Google your theme and check online if there is any way you can use what you already have inside your closet.

3. Missing out on family trips
Again, you will be forced to see all the great pictures your family took abroad while you scramble to finish your work at the office. Sucks to be you, huh!?
How to deal: Turn off your social media accounts. Treat yourself to a spa day or a shopping spree. Just because you’re left alone in the city does not mean you cannot have fun.

4. Working on vacation
You managed to sneak in some R&R but even at the beach side, you have your iPad and laptop open, with emails coming in a hundred a minute. And this is already a vacation!
How to deal: Set up a time, say before breakfast, to fulfill all your office obligations. After that, turn off all notifications, social media accounts, laptops, and mobile devices. Enjoy. You deserve it.

5. Going to work the morning after a party
What’s a party when you cannot drink ‘til you drop or party until the wee hours of the morning? Well, you can’t because you still have to go to work the next day. Sucks!
How to deal: Try to schedule your get-togethers on a Friday or over the weekend. If that isn’t possible, choose the parties that you’d really want to enjoy and file a leave for the next day.
