How time flies when you’re holed up at home for almost half of the year, huh? You may think that this time in quarantine could be a huge setback or a big opportunity. Either way, it has made a big impact on all of our lives, for now and for the foreseeable future. It’s up to you how you can turn this time to your advantage. Here are a few tips:
1. Reflect on your life.
Are you content with your life, or could you use a few changes? How can you work towards those changes? This is a perfect time to reassess your life and think of ways on how you can better it. We are all so used to the hustle and bustle of our daily lives that we often forget to slow down and really think about what matters to us and if what we’re doing with our lives matches our values and principles. Do you wish to have more time for your family, but your work demands too much of your time even while you’re working from home? Do you want to go back to school, but fear that you may not do well? Would you like to be your own boss and possibly start your own small enterprise? Now’s the time to consider and possibly plan your next steps - how could you go about making a transition without disrupting your entire life?
2. Develop new habits.
No time to get through your to-be-read pile because of work? No time to cook healthy meals because of…well, work? Always wanted to learn how to dance but don’t have the energy or the time? No matter how small or big your goals are, achieving them starts by incorporating them in your daily routine. That book will stay unread unless you make time for it. Now’s the time. If you want to go through your to-be-read pile, start by reading a chapter a day before going to bed. If you want to learn yoga, download that app and devote the first 15 minutes of your day to that. Want to learn how to cook? Devote your weekends to preparing your meals for the coming week. Incorporate these new habits into your life, even if it’s just for 10 to 20 minutes a day. Soon you’ll find that they will no longer be unachievable goals, but actual activities that enrich your life on the daily.
3. Spend more time with your loved ones.
We spend more time at work and in traffic than we do at home. Until now. If you’re luckily quarantined with your loved ones, make a point to spend time with them, even if it’s just to eat three meals a day and end the day with a game of Monopoly. And if you’re not as lucky, make new family habits and traditions over Facebook Messenger or Zoom.
4. Get involved.
This time in isolation has given us a surplus of time. Instead of just silently seething while reading the news on social media, perhaps you’d like to be more involved. You can use your time on social media proactively by donating to a cause you believe in, perhaps volunteering your services to them in the form of your craft (i.e., make art cards for them if you’re a graphic artist, etc.).
5. Get insured.
